An early audit of this marketing agency’s South Kensington offices gave real insight into the staff culture: that of a group of empowered individuals with a strong sense of community. Pitching for their move east to City Road, the audit was evolved into a ‘civic masterplan’ for their new home, a small city organised around more free-flowing, flexible space.
Now built, the focus of this is a ground-floor town square, where a river-like reception desk curves into timber bleacher seating. The leftover interstitial spaces created between the meeting rooms in the curved footprint of the host building are celebrated, offering a variety of options for dialogue or breakout.

The motto of Battersea Municipal Council provided inspiration for the civic concept. "Not for me, not for you, but for us."

The reception desk flows seamlessly into timber bleacher seating for ‘town hall’ sessions and informal gatherings.

Sketches for wall coverings range from full-height cork pin-up boards through to corridor linings and coloured cladding to the cafeteria bar.

In Venice, the smallest alleys and yards are populated and have purpose. For MullenLowe, the interstitial spaces between the ground floor meeting rooms are left flexible, for use by project teams or for breakout.
