Site visit to the restoration and extension of Category A Listed Tarlair Pavilion in Macduff.
The extension’s plinth is now ready for pouring on Friday. The complex concrete and rebar repairs inside and out will continue for another 2 weeks. The new roof should be on within the month, ready for whatever the winter throws at this gem. A stunning day of changing light, rainbows and showers.

Alzette House for sale!
What a pleasant surprise to see this project again after nearly 20 years. Listed on The Modern House today, Studio Octopi designed (& built!) the refurb of this amazing #Lubetkin apartment. Remarkably the joinery and flooring appears to be as it was installed all those years ago.

Moor Close on site
Our works at Grade II Listed Newbold College (formally Moor Close) are reaching a conclusion with only the new stair to be installed. New toilets, meeting rooms and historic restoration works are all part of a wider plan to upgrade the facilities at the further education college in Binfield, Berkshire.
Certified Passive House Designer
Congratulations to Studio Octopi director and co-founder, James Lowe. He’s now a qualified Certified Passive House Designer.
James’ certification will enable Studio Octopi to design buildings (not just houses) to the German Passive House Institute’s standards.

On the 24th August, Chris visited Yaverland on the Isle of Wight to chose a preferred location for a new tidal pool. Swim The Wight have commissioned Studio Octopi to work on a feasibility for a new pool to assist in their mission to ensure the sea around the Isle of Wight is accessible to as many as people as possible.

Tarlair Outdoor Pool on site
Work is well underway at Tarlair. The Category A Listed pavilion has now had the listed panelling set aside and the ceiling cleared of the original fibreboard. The flat roof has also been stripped back to the concrete deck. The buildings 1932 concrete shell is now fully exposed and the complexity of the concrete repairs visible. With Narro Associates and Heritage Architecture.

Saltcoats community consultation
Last night Chris was in Saltcoats, North Ayrshire for the big reveal of the restoration of Saltcoats Bathing Pond. Over 120 people packed into the Town Hall to hear Jim and Irene from the Splash Group and Chris talk through the proposals.

On Thursday Chris was in Bristol for @designwestuk’s Urban Splash swimming talks. Stretching the brief to encompass towns and cities, Chris called for ambition and investment in outdoor swimming facilities to match our European friends.

Chalet Mignon
This week, James was on site in #Chamonix for our new build 3 bed #chalet in the shadow of Mont-Blanc. The installation of the offsite constructed, insulated panel system is well underway, concluding next week.

Kingston Baths
Back in 2021 we got talking to @kingston_council & @kingstonlibdems about a floating pool for Kingston Riverside. The area has huge potential with its proximity to the town centre & clean, safe water etc. Two years on and we’ve just seen that the proposed Kingfisher Leisure Centre costs have nearly doubled to £79.5m, forcing a redesign.
